2014 Operation Kandersteg - Oxford Spires Expedition to Switzerland

From the 8th to the 18th of August 2014, a group of 50 Scouts and Explorers from Oxford Spires District will travel to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in the Swiss Alps. KISC is the World Scout Centre of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, and is visited by over 12,000 Scouts and Guides every year from more than 40 different countries. A visit to KISC is a truly inspiring experience, and many who camp at the site remember it as the best trip they have ever been on in Scouting.

The District Expedition will provide those aged 11-17 at the time of the trip with the chance to spend 10 nights camping in the scenic surroundings of KISC. Whilst there they will take part in a number of adventurous activities; the range offered at KISC includes ice climbing on mountain glaciers, white water rafting and overnight hikes staying in mountain huts. The trip also provides a valuable opportunity to join with Scouts from all over the world and earn unique awards such as the KISC "Eco" and "High Adventure" badges.

The trip will be led by a team of 10 adult leaders, many of whom have stayed at KISC before and have organised international events of this nature. KISC is also staffed by Scouts from around the world, and all activities are led by trained professionals.

The trip will be funded by a mix of individual contributions subsidised by group fundraising. All participants will be expected to take part in a minimum of 4 centrally organised fundraising events.
